Exhibition Update

Intergeo 2006
10th - 12 October
ICM / New Munich Trade Fair Centre

Conference and trade fair for geodesy, geoinformation, and land management

As representative for Europe MD3D manned the Surphaser stand at Intergeo this year. BasisSoftware, Inc. have produced their first 3D scanner with user selectable single or two pass operation. This new model, the Surphaser HS25X, was demonstrated to visitors from a broad cross-section of industry.

The Surphaser model 25 series scanners are already well known for the quality of the point clouds they produce, but earlier models required three scan passes in order to produce a final result. The new platform addresses the desire of our customers to have the flexibility of choice between a much faster scan time, or a higher accuracy mode with just the 2 passes.

It was nice to meet existing users of the Surphaser and so many potential new customers.

We focused on showing the capability of the scanner to capture clean point clouds and high levels of detail. It is common to see scans of an entire room scene made in a short time scale, but the devil is often in the detail, and post-processing can become a laborious, difficult task with noisy data. The profile of the celing of the hall directly above out stand was captured; an image of a typical profile is shown on the left. We also demonstrated the overall range noise performance using a flat target and found a standard deviation of approximately 100 micrometers following the fitting of a plane to the data.
